Malek Abdul Aziz: « My time in prison had not than bad, it was also good »
The American boxer planned, by 1993, to follow the example of Muhammad Ali, another American boxer, embracing Islam and changing his name. He began by studying the principles and teachings of Islam under which, once released from prison where he was serving a sentence of six years for rape, he would become someone quite different from what people have known . He wanted to return to the ring to resume sporting activity with another religion, Islam, and under another name, Malek Abdulaziz. But if he could change his religion, he failed to change its name because the media continued to call Mike Tyson. The refusal to adopt his new name has not upset so far, because it was his conversion to Islam that mattered most.
